How does a credit freeze work?

A credit freeze can secure your credit reports from unauthorized access. It's now free to freeze and unfreeze your credit reports with the three major credit reporting bureaus. A credit freeze doesn't prevent people who already have access to your credit history from viewing your credit file.

Does Experian freeze & unfreeze credit?

Experian and TransUnion require you to set a unique PIN to freeze and unfreeze your credit, though Equifax does not. Freezing your credit is free, and you'll need to do it with all three credit bureaus to lock down each of your credit reports. And again, the freeze will stay in place until you lift it.

Does a security freeze affect your credit report?

A security freeze limits access to your Experian credit report without your permission. Freezing your credit can help protect against identity theft and fraud. Having a freeze on your credit report will not affect your credit scores, but it may prevent your credit report from being accessed until you unfreeze your credit report or credit file.
